Israk and Mikraj is celebrated every year on the 27th day of Rajab in the Islamic lunar calendar. This greatest event in Islamic history is considered a gift from ALLAH SWT.

Israk refers to the Prophet's journey from Mecca to Jerusalem on the celestial horse Buraq, while Mikraj describes his ascension through the seven heavens into the divine presence. It was during this journey that the five daily prayers were established.

School Holidays in Conjunction with Public Holidays for Israk and Mikraj 2026

All students in Malaysia will enjoy the Hari Israk and Mikraj holidays based on their school group in 2026. These dates will help students, parents, and even teachers plan their celebrations and travel arrangements effectively.

Group A

(Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu)

• 17 January 2026 (Saturday) – Normal school holiday on that day. No additional holidays.

Group B

(Mellaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, WP Kuala Lumpur, WP Labuan and WP Putrajaya)

• 17 January 2026 (Saturday) – Normal school holiday on that day. No additional holidays.

If you plan ahead, keep in mind that the school will follow the government's public holiday schedule without additional holidays.

Celebration of Israk and Mikraj Day in Malaysia

Every year on the 27th day of Rajab in the Islamic lunar calendar, Malaysia celebrates Israk and Mikraj, commemorating the miraculous Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad. Israk refers to the Prophet's journey from Mecca to Jerusalem on the celestial horse Buraq, while Mikraj describes his ascension through the seven heavens into the presence of God. It was during this journey that the five daily prayers were established.

Israk refers to the journey of the Prophet Muhammad SAW from the Masjidil Haram (Mecca) to the Masjidil Aqsa (Aqsa Mosque), riding a mount called Buraq. Mikraj refers to the journey of the Prophet Muhammad SAW from the Masjidil Aqsa to Sidratul Muntaha (the seventh heaven).

During the Mikraj, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the command to pray five times a day and night from Allah SWT. This event is proof of Allah SWT's power and an important lesson for Muslims about the importance of prayer and faith.
