Independence Day Proclamation Date 2026, Independence Day celebrations, school holidays and public holidays, remind us that Independence Day Proclamation is a state public holiday in Melaka, which is commemorated annually on February 20. On February 20, 1956, Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman announced that Malaya would gain independence on August 31, 1957 from British colonialism.
This event became a turning point in Malaysian history, sparking unity, hope, and the spirit of freedom throughout the country. This event took place in Padang Bandar Hilir, Melaka.

Independence Day Celebration is the day on which the date of independence of the Federation of Malaya was announced. In Malacca, this date is commemorated as a public holiday on 20 February every year.
