However, based on the 2025 federal and state public holiday schedule announced by the Cabinet Division – JPM, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected to fall on:

  • April 1, 2025 (Tuesday) – 2nd Day of Eid (All states)

Additional School Holidays in Conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri Public Holidays 2025

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a celebration celebrated by Muslims all over the world, regardless of race, whether Arab, English, Malay, Indian-Muslim, Chinese-Muslim and other races around the world who are Muslims, to mark the end of the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims have diligently observed the fast.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month, and the beginning of Syawal in the Islamic calendar. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is celebrated on 1 Syawal of the Hijri year. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is also known as Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Fitrah or Hari Lebaran.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri not only marks the end of Ramadan, but also reinforces the values of self-control, empathy, and faith. It celebrates the completion of a month of spiritual discipline, fasting, and prayer throughout Ramadan.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri begins when the new moon is sighted, marking the beginning of the month of Syawal, which is the 10th month in the Islamic Hijri Calendar. In Malaysia, the new moon will be observed by officers on duty from the afternoon until Maghrib at several strategic locations.

On Hari Raya Aidilfitri, families visit their elders, share traditional dishes such as ketupat, rendang, lemang, and kuih raya, and dress in festive baju kurung or baju Melayu.

Many public figures and private homes host open houses, where guests are welcomed with festive food and drinks. Open houses for government officials and key government officials are held in large public spaces or halls.

Many people start Hari Raya by visiting the graves of their loved ones to say prayers and pay their respects.
